goooooooooooooodddddddddd morning vietnam

Some of you have been here and told me how b.tchin this place is. I concur

As a kid (small medium and large) id watch shows like China Beach, Tour Of Duty, The Wonder Years, Punky Brewster, etc and wonder about this place called Vietnam. Then id see movies like Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Good Morning Vietnam, Hot Shots, etc and i was all like ‘that place looks awesome – i want to go to there’

And then id hear the songs. The ones about the conflict. The ones about the aftermath of the conflict. Some artists did it well. Others not so well. But i like me a good story in a song.

I got the idea to come here last April. I was at Disneyland (the real one) and as i went through the tunnels on the Its A Small World ride i kinda got sad. The ride goes through all the nations and nationalities on this here planet of ours and i realised id seen a lot since i left home in late May 2010. At that stage id been on the trip over 10 months and had only another 2 months planned. I wanted to head home but i didn’t want the reality bubble to burst yet. On the ride I was talking to my mate and fellow Team Awesome member – Dave – and mentioned this sudden sadness and he gave some advice. Not that theres anything wrong with two grown men riding on a fibreglass duck through a tunnel at Disneyland talking about heavy sh.t like that and singing along to Its A Small World After All. And then the fibreglass duck stopped at the Asian section and i looked at the sign that said Vietnam. So i said to Dave ‘fcuk it im goin’.

And i did.
